Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire a

Farm Lab Assistant
position. This is a part-time, classified, non-union, non-exempt, and non benefits-eligible position. This limited-term position will cover a faculty sabbatical, require approximately 10 to 12 hours per week for spring and summer terms, and will need to be available Wednesdays during the on-campus farmers market during summer term (from 6/24 to 8/26).

OVERVIEW:
  • Maintains the organic farm on campus that is used as the outdoor classroom and learning lab for the program.
  • Assists with the planning, organization and maintenance of our educational farm.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform the day to day maintenance functions of the farm site, and high tunnel. This will include:
    • Managing, installing and maintaining the drip irrigation system,
    • Performing tractor work with tiller, spader, mower, etc.
    • Managing pests & weeds using organic methods and materials,
    • Managing cover crop planting and maintenance,
    • Assisting with seed harvest,
    • Building trellis system, and other items as needed,
    • Maintaining and repairing farm tools and equipment,
    • Assisting with preparation for class labs and clean up.
  • Assist with planning and organization of farm related activities. This will include:
    • Creating a four-season crop planting and rotation plan,
    • Keeping records of planting, harvesting and farm labor,
    • Organizing and storing farm seeds,
    • Ordering supplies as needed.
  • Communicate with the Organic Farming instructor on a regular basis.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with College staff, other organizations and the public.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.


AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate.
  • Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in area of responsibility.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.


Qualifications



MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Thorough knowledge of organic farming principles and practices.
  • High school graduate, supplemented by additional training equal to two years of college in horticulture/agriculture, plus one year of related experience

    or
    any satisfactory combination of experience and education which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the above duties.
